Uttarakhand is a state in northern India.formed on November 9,2000,from the Himalayan region of Uttar pradesh. Known as “Devbhoomi’ (Land of the Gods) due to numerous Hindu shrines, it is characterized by the Himalayan mountains, forests, and the origin of major rivers like the ganga and Yamuna.

Originating from the Yamunotri Glacier in the lower Himalayas (Uttarakhand) at an elevation of 6,387 meters, it flows 1,376 km through Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh before merging with the Ganga at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj.

Bhagirathi River
- Geographic (Uttarakhand Headstream): The Bhagirathi is a turbulent Himalayan river that originates from the Gaumukh (Gangotri Glacier) at an elevation of approximately 3,892 metres. It flows for about 205 km before merging with the Alaknanda River at Devprayag to officially form the Ganges.
Mandakini River
The Mandakini River is a 72–81 km long tributary of the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand, India, originating from the Chorabari Glacier near the holy shrine of Kedarnath. It flows through the Rudraprayag district, passing Kedarnath and Sonprayag before merging with the Alaknanda at Rudraprayag. It is highly significant in Hindu pilgrimage and offers turbulent waters for rafting.
Koshi River
The Koshi (or Kosi) River is a 724 km transboundary river flowing through China, Nepal, and India, famously known as the “Sorrow of Bihar” for its devastating annual floods and rapid westward migration of over 100 km in 200 years. It is formed by seven Himalayan streams (Saptakoshi) and brings heavy silt, depositing it across north Bihar before joining the Ganges.
